Azerbaijan shares data on subsidies to be given per hectare of hazelnut orchards for 2021

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Jan. 27

By Jeyhun Alakbarov - Trend:

Farmers will receive a lump-sum subsidy in the amount of 4,400 manat ($2,588) per hectare of hazelnut orchards in Azerbaijan in 2021, Farid Rahimli, Deputy Chairman of the State Service on Management of Agricultural Projects and Loans under the Azerbaijani Ministry of Agriculture, said, Trend reports on Jan. 27.

“A farmer who wants to set up a garden to receive a lump-sum subsidy must first register a document confirming the right to use the land in the system,” Rahimli added.

“The main condition is to set up a garden in 2021, to plant seedlings according to the horticultural rules during the monitoring period, and to install a drip irrigation system,” the deputy chairman said.

“Farmers whose orchards do not meet these requirements will not receive a lump-sum subsidy but will receive only a subsidy for planting,” Rahimli said.

“Subsidies for 46,300 hectares of hazelnut orchards were paid to farmers in 2020,” the deputy chairman said. “Only 1,900 hectares of that volume accounted for rapidly growing orchards. We hope that thanks to the mechanism of subsidies, this figure will double."
