Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend U. Ismaylova / Azerbaijan's Ministry of Economic Development has prepared two packages of documents on Azerbaijan's entrance to the World Trade Organization (WTO). The Minister of Economic Development, Heydar Babayev, said on 4 October that the document has been submitted to the Government.
"The time of discussing the documents has not yet been confirmed, it depends on the parliament," Babayev said.
According to the Minister, proposals on Azerbaijan's entrance to the WTO have been sent to the Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan for consideration. They envisage establishing a Council on Membership to the WTO under the auspice of the Azerbaijan President's program of 'nine steps' on entrance to the WTO. The Cabinet of Ministers has positively assessed the proposals.
Azerbaijan joined the WTO as an observer in 1997.
