Islamic Development Bank Refuses to Support Institutional Development in Azerbaijan

Business Materials 15 April 2008 18:30 (UTC +04:00)

Azerbaijan, Baku, 15 April / Trend corr I. Khalilova/ The Islamic Development Bank (IDB) specified the priorities of its further cooperation with the Azerbaijani Government and refused to render technical support to institutional development and improvement of the potential of country's state bodies, the Cabinet reported on 14 April.

That was reflected in the new 2007-09 cooperation program. Previously, the program included technical assistance for improvement of potential of the Azerbaijan State Committee on State Property Management, but later it was removed from the program.

Now, IDB's technical assistance can be rendered only to development of the feasibility study of projects. The refusal to support institutional development of the state bodies was caused by improvement of Azerbaijan's financial opportunities, through which the country can itself finance these arrangements.

In 1992, Azerbaijan joined the IDB and was the first post-Soviet country to enter the organization.

IDB's technical assistance to Azerbaijan exceeds $5mln.
