KfW Project to Improve Water Supply and Sewerage System Presented in Azerbaijani Region

Azerbaijan, Baku, 14 July / Trend corr I.Khalilova/ "Azerbaijani government jointly with German development bank KfW is presenting in Ganja the project on restoration of water supply and sewerage system in Ganja and Sheki cities," Government reported on 14 July. The key purpose of the presentation is to inform the people in the cities of the events carried out within the project which enables uninterrupted water supply and improvement of their life conditions.

Manager of the project from KfW Ursula Heister, who is visiting the country, is participating in the presentation ceremony.

Presently, Swiss consulting company Colenco, consultant of the bank, is making preparations to commence implementation of the project. Colenco has commenced developing the project documents.

The first tenders to specify contractors and work in this direction will be dealt with in 2008.

In addition to developing of technical conditions of the tender, the consultant will also be responsible for the institutional upgrade of the water system in Ganja and Sheki. Measures to upgrade the water system and construction work will be fixed at the same time.

The project envisages improvement of quality and the safety of water and the sewerage systems in Ganja and Sheki. The cost of the project is €55mln. KfW will allocate €37mln credits and Seco - € 10mln in compliance with the agreement signed in Bern in October 2006. The share of Azerbaijani Government in the project is €8mln.

On 14 July, official exchange rate totalled 0.8057 AZN/USD.
