In 2009, the banking system of Azerbaijan repaid over $1 billion on foreign loans, the Director General of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) Khagani Abdullayev said on Oct. 14.
"Along with this, as of the end of September, Azerbaijani banks attracted about $600 million from international capital markets, respectively, the red ink amounted to $400 million," said Abdullayev on Oct. 14 in Baku at the 2nd International Banking Conference of CIS countries "Improving the sustainability of financial and banking systems of the Commonwealth".
According to data provided by the CBA, by the end of 2009, it is expected to attract additional resources. As a result, the amount of external debts of the banking sector in the country will remain at the level in the beginning of the year - $2 billion.
