Transit of goods through Iran soars

In the first six month of the Iranian calendar year (March 22- September 22) over 3 million tons of goods worth some $11.3 billion were transited through Iran which shows a 4.5 and 19.8 percent growth in volume and value, respectively.

IRNA news agency quoted Iran Customs Administration stating that during this period among the countries of origin China was first in terms of volume, Turkmenistan ranked second, Uzbekistan came third, Turkey fourth and UAE fifth. These countries of origin constituted 57.2 percent of the volume of goods sent through Iran.

Among the destinations, Afghanistan was first, Iraq second, Azerbaijan third, UAE fourth and Turkmenistan ranked fifth, totally adding to 65.5 percent of the volume of goods transited through Iran.
