Azerbaijan has established a new laboratory to monitor the quality of crops under the State Supervision Service on Consumer market at the Azerbaijani Economic Development Ministry, the ministry reported.

The laboratory is equipped with equipment produced by such world-renowned companies like Siemens, Varian, Labart, Orka Food, Esco Biotech, which have passed accreditation at the State Standardization, Metrology and Patent Committee.

The laboratory has all conditions to detect radiological, toxicological, biological and physical-chemical characteristics of cereals. The laboratory's equipment also allows to evaluate the safety and quality of other foods.

In 2009, Azerbaijan has reached record levels in the production of grain products, which amounted to about 3 million tons of grain, taking into account the maize yield. Azerbaijan also imports grain from Russia, Turkey and Kazakhstan. Azerbaijan's grain demand is 3 million tons per year, one million of which is imported.
