Volume of cargo transportations increase in Turkmenistan

Turkmenistan increased volume of transportation in 2009 by all modes of transport by 2 percent compared to 2008. The carriage of passengers remains stable. The volume of passenger transportation increased by 7.4 percent, whilst passenger turnover rose by 12.1 percent in 2009 compared to 2008.

Upon the initiative of Ashgabat, at this stage a large-scale project of the joint railway lines of Iran, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan is being implemented. It will provide a strategically convenient way for CIS states to the Persian Gulf.

Turkmen section of the road is being built by loans of the Islamic Development Bank and the Asian Development Bank.

The statistical report indicated that the income of the Communications Ministry enterprises increased by 20.4 percent in 2009 compared to 2008.
