The World Bank (WB) and International Monetary Fund (IMF) have contributed greatly to the economic development program in Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijani Finance Minister Samir Sharifov made this statement during meetings with WB and IMF representatives in Washington which hosted the third meeting of the Azerbaijani-U.S. intergovernmental commission for economic cooperation, the ministry said on Saturday.

At meetings with the WB Vice President for Europe and Central Asia Philippe Le Houerou and the WB Country Director for the South Caucasus Asad Alam the sides discussed the socio-economic development of Azerbaijan, sustained growth and diversification of the economy, the situation with the implementation of WB projects in Azerbaijan and the different directions of WB new economic development strategy for the country.

It was noted that the rapid development of non-oil sector in Azerbaijan raises the importance of joint projects in the country.

Sharifov also held meetings with the IMF Deputy Managing Director Nemat Shafik, the head of the Middle East and Central Asia, department Masood Ahmed. The IMF representatives appreciated the economic growth, macroeconomic and financial stability in the country.

During the meetings, WB and IMF representatives stressed the high level of relations with Azerbaijan.
