Austria provides 11 mln euro for ski resort in Georgia

Georgia has started the construction of a ski resort on the Goderdzi pass in Adjara with the financial assistance of Austria.

The agreement on the allocation to Adjara of 10.93 million euros for the construction of a resort was signed by UniCredit Bank Austria AG in Batumi on Monday.

Austrian Bank has allocated an unprecedented an interest-free financial resource for construction of ski resort's infrastructure.

From the Georgian side the agreement was signed by Minister of Finance of Georgia Dmitry Gvindadze, from Austrian - Managing Director of Bank Florence Werdisheim.

The amount allocated will be directed to the opening of 1.7-kilometer ropeway of gondola type, and the 1.9-kilometer - of the open type. Total length of ski trails will reach 11 kilometers.

The project is entrusted to the Austrian firm DOPPELMAYR, with which an agreement has already been signed.

Along with the development of trails, construction of cottages, hotels, restaurants and cafes at the expense of private investment is planned. Ski resort will operate year-round.
