The eighth International Cotton and Textile Fair will be held on October 17-18, 2012 in Tashkent, the Ministry of External Relations, Investment and Trade said.

Participants will be able to view samples of Uzbek cotton fibre to assess the quality and conclude a contract on the selected products of leading textile companies of Uzbekistan.

Discussions are expected to take place on the current problems and prospects of the world cotton market during the fair. In particular, speeches of the leading international experts on the prospects of the world cotton market with the supply and demand of the market of cotton textiles, the state and prospects of production and marketing of cotton in Uzbekistan, new technologies cotton competitiveness, investment climate and participation of foreign investors in the development of the cotton and textile industry of Uzbekistan are planned.

The fair has been held annually in Uzbekistan since 2005. It is organised by the Uzbek government with the assistance of the International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC).

Last year during the seventh cotton fair, contracts for the purchase of more than 600,000 tons of Uzbek cotton fibre were concluded and the amount of contracts for export of Uzbek textile industry exceeded half a billion dollars.

Annually, Uzbekistan produces about 3.5 million tons of raw cotton and 1-1.2 million tons of cotton. Some 95 per cent of the orders accounts for medium selected varieties with a fibre length of 32-33 mm. The remainder is for long fibre cotton measuring 36-39 mm.
