Kazakhstan's agricultural sector should increase grain processing, Novosti-Kazakhstan quotes Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister Krymbek Kusherbayev as saying.

"Kazakhstan's agricultural sector has a great potential to increase grain production and supplies to the world market, but it is shortsightedly to focus only on grain export. We should also develop grain processing," Kusherbayev said at the VI Kazakh Grain Forum "Kazgrain - 2012" on Friday.

He recalled that in the current year grain production in Kazakhstan decreased due to drought in some regions.

"The World Food Organization warned us that climate change will result in more frequent and long droughts and urged to develop national strategies for risk management in this area," Kusherbayev said.

He urged to continue introducing water-and resource-saving technologies in order to have a stable yield, regardless of the weather conditions.

According to Kusherbayev, the work on development of grain storage and transportation infrastructure in Kazakhstan will continue in the future.

"I am talking about the construction of new and rehabilitation of existing granaries, construction and purchasing of grain carries, terminals and bulk carriers," Kusherbayev said.
