Georgia decreases construction material imports from Azerbaijan twofold

The total value of imports of Azerbaijani construction materials to Georgia decreased twofold in January-May 2015, the Georgian National Statistics Service's report as of January-May 2015 says.

Around 30,030 metric tons of construction gypsum and other anhydrite totaling $4.18 million were imported from Azerbaijan to Georgia during this period.

In quantitative terms, the volume of imports of construction materials from Azerbaijan reduced by 39.36 percent compared to the same period of 2014.

For comparison, around 49,500 metric tons of construction materials in the amount of $8.48 million were imported to Georgia in January-May 2014.

The share of construction materials in Azerbaijan's total export volume to Georgia for the period amounted to 1.7 percent.

Around 8,600 metric tons of steel reinforcement in the amount of $4.9 million was exported from Georgia to Azerbaijan during this period. Around 48,460 metric tons of steel reinforcement in the amount of $29.86 million was exported to Azerbaijan in the same period of 2014.

According to the report, Georgia imported goods worth $243.65 million from Azerbaijan in January-May 2015.

The volume of imports of Azerbaijani goods to Georgia decreased by 5.67 percent compared to January-May 2014.

Azerbaijan ranks third in the list of the countries from which Georgia imports products. The share of Azerbaijan's exports in a total volume of goods imported in Georgia is 8 percent.

Georgian imports most of goods from Turkey. The volume of Georgia's imports from Turkey totaled $523.87 million or 17.3 percent in January-May 2015. China ranks second with $256.8 million (8.5 percent).

Georgia mainly imports gas, oil products, building materials, electric power and other products from Azerbaijan.
