Kazakhstan’s tourism sector continues to expand

The number of hotels, hotels, campsites, sanatoriums and other tourist accommodation in Kazakhstan increased to 3,000 in 2017, which is 8.5 percent more than in 2016, Energy Prom reported.

The largest number of tourist objects is concentrated in the East Kazakhstan region (16.9 percent of the total in Kazakhstan) and Almaty region (15 percent of the total in Kazakhstan).

The number of visitors of tourism sites increased by 25.2 percent in 2017, to 5.3 million people, of which 4.4 million are local residents, and 891,900 are foreign tourists.

The largest number of tourists came to Astana (989,200 people, 35 percent more year over year) and Almaty (969,900 tourists, 22.3 percent more year over year).

In April 2018, Almaty hosted "Tourism and Travel" KITF 2018 exhibition. Over 340 companies from 30 countries participated in the largest international touristic event of the Central Asian region, and 19 national stands were presented.

The value of services rendered in the tourism sector in 2017 amounted to 108.36 billion tenge, increasing by 30.8 percent compared to 2016.
