Tender re-announced for transportation services at Istanbul's 3rd airport

The tender for provision of transportation services at the third airport of Istanbul will take place for the second time on Sept. 27, the Turkish media reported Sept. 17.

The first tender was held on Sept. 4, but the airport management canceled the results of the tender, in which the winner was the Altur-Havas-Free Turizm consortium.

Opening of the third airport will take place on Oct. 29 this year in Istanbul.

Currently, work is underway to install electronic equipment at the third airport of Istanbul.

The airport is being built in the area of Lake Terkos in the northern part of Istanbul.

Currently, flights to 282 destinations are operated from Turkey; with the third airport of Istanbul, the number of destinations will increase to 350.

Also the Airport City, consisting of shops, logistics and exhibition centers will be built in the new airport.

The first airport in Turkey was built in 1912 and was used for military purposes. In 1953, Istanbul airport was opened for international flights for the first time, and in 1985 it was renamed in honor of the founder of the Turkish Republic, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk.
