The main share of exports of Azerbaijani fruits and vegetables go to the markets of Russia and CIS, but at the same time the search continues for new markets for agricultural products, and there is some success in this direction, Chairman of the Fruit and Vegetable Producers and Exporters Association of Azerbaijan Bashir Guliyev told Trend.

The chairman of the association noted that the countries of the Middle East are a new destination for the export of Azerbaijani fruits and vegetables.

"For the time being, the volume of agricultural products exported to these markets is small, but according to our calculations, they will increase and gain momentum. We plan to expand agricultural production in order to increase exports in the new direction," Guliyev said.

The chairman of the association said Azerbaijan does not plan to export its agricultural products to Europe, due to the congestion of European markets.

"The markets of Europe are overflowing with agricultural products from the countries of North Africa, and because of the high competition, the prices of the products are very low," he said.

According to the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan, the export of fruits and vegetables in January-June 2018 amounted to $276.7 million, which is 20 percent more than in 2017.
