By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

Azerbaijan and Denmark may expand trade in pharmaceuticals, Danish Ambassador to Azerbaijan Svend Olling told Trend.

“However, I think it is good to keep many opportunities open and in that regard, food and agriculture are also interesting areas. It is also relevant to look at the trade of health care and pharmaceuticals, as it has been the biggest area of trade between Denmark and Azerbaijan for years. The trade in this area might be able to expand in the future,” he added.

Olling noted that Azerbaijan and Denmark share friendly relations, not least in terms of the economic cooperation between the two countries.

“Medicine and pharmaceutical products make up the biggest group of imported goods from Denmark to Azerbaijan. Other than that, the Danish beer industry is well established in Azerbaijan with Danish company Carlsberg being strong in the beer market,” he said.

Still, the envoy noted that the overall trade volume has fallen with 40 percent between 2016 and 2017 and the export from Azerbaijan to Denmark is very limited. On that note, there is definitely room for extended trade and investments in the future, according to Olling.

“Through increased dialogue between the people of our nations, we have the possibility of exporting knowledge and communicating possible trade opportunities in the respective countries. Intercultural dialogue in the form of exchange studies and tourism are informal ways of doing this. Adding to that, I will certainly do my part in informing Azerbaijani as well as Danish companies about the opportunities,” said the ambassador.
