The Central Bank of Uzbekistan has defined the winner of the competition to choose a name for the National Payment System, Uzbek media reported.
During the first stage of the competition, 2,400 proposals were received, and three most popular names - Humo, Adras and Anor - were selected.
“At the second stage of the competition, about 4,000 respondents took part in a voting to choose one of the three names,” the Central Bank said. “As a result, "Humo" won the first place with 45.3 percent of the votes. In this regard, the development of a brand for the national retail payment system will be carried out considering the selected name.”
Humo is a bird of happiness and love of freedom in Uzbek mythology. The Uzbek poet Alisher Navoi characterized the Humo bird as the kindest of all living beings.
After a serious outage in UzCard payment system, the Uzbek president instructed the Central Bank to create a National Inter-Bank Processing Center and a new retail payment system.
