Iran to replace imported goods with domestic items

Iran Ministry of Industry Mine and Trade is prioritizing the improvement of the domestic production to replace imports.

"In the current year, we have specific project to support domestic productions worth up to $10 billion as an alternative to imported goods.” Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Reza Rahmani said, Trend reports citing ISNA.

"Our priority is to preserve the current production situation and create jobs. In this case, supply of raw materials that are either imported or produced in the country is among the priorities,” he said.

"We hope to use the capacities of border provinces and specially East Azerbaijan province, by establishing production units and solving the domestic producers’ problems,” he said.

"The rise of foreign currency rate has led to rise of export and drop of smuggling goods in the country,” he said referring to opportunities that was created by limitations of US sanctions.

"In supplying the basic goods, the government has allocated 420.000 rial for the imports, so we do not have any concern over it," he said.

"However there are some failures, but the ministry seeks to solve them,” he added
