About 1.56 million TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit) of containers have been transported from the Shahid Rajaee Port in Iran’s southern Hormozgan Province from the beginning of the current Iranian year (started March 21, 2018), said Allahmorad Afifipour, Director of the Ports and Maritime Department in Hormozgan, Trend reports referring to IRNA.
According to him, 1.1 million TEU of containers were full and 383,000 of them were empty.
Afifipour added that 295,500 TEU of containers with exported goods were loaded at the Shahid Rajaee Port, and 326,200 TEU of containers with imported goods were unloaded during the mentioned period.
The Shahid Rajaee Port is considered the biggest and most modern container port of Iran. Annually 5.8 million TEU of containers are transported via this port.
The Shahid Rajaee Port is dubbed the “Golden Gate” of the Iranian economy. Some 53 percent of imports and exports and 70 percent of transits are carried out at this port.
