Uzbekistan’s foreign trade deficit amounts to $319.2 million

Following the results of the first two months of 2019, Uzbekistan’s foreign trade deficit amounted to $319.2 million or 10.5 percent of its exports against a deficit of $939.4 million in January-February last year, or 62.9 percent of exports, Trend reports via Uzbek media.

As before, gold got the largest share in the exports structure, which sales to Switzerland decreased by 3.9 percent to $1.23 billion, or 40.5 percent of total Uzbek exports.

Without the export of gold, Uzbekistan’s foreign trade deficit will amount to $1.55 billion, or 85.9 percent of the country's exports and 51.1 percent of total Uzbek exports.

After gold, the largest shares in the export of Uzbekistan in January-February 2019 accounted for energy - $485.3 million (2.5 times increase), services - $407.3 million (an increase of $226.7 million or by 9.3 percent).

Next in terms of sales to foreign partners are chemical products - $144.5 million (an increase of 16.3 percent), non-ferrous metals - $141.1 million (an increase of 49.3 percent), food products - $128.5 million (an increase of 23.7 percent).

In the structure of imports, the largest share in the first two months of this year falls on machinery and equipment - $1.41 billion, purchases of which increased by 58.3 percent. At the same time, their share in the structure of imports increased from 34.5 percent to 42 percent.

The following items in terms of imports are chemical products - $432.1 million (an increase of 19.7 percent), food products - $357 million (an increase of 11.5 percent), services - $314.2 million (an increase of 5, 1 percent) and ferrous metals - $234.3 million (an increase of 0.6 percent).

China remained the main foreign trade partners of Uzbekistan, which accounted for 18.4 percent of the total foreign trade of the country, Russia (14.8 percent), Kazakhstan (7.6 percent), South Korea - 7.5 percent, Turkey (5.2 percent).
