Investments in livestock sector increase in Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic

The investments made in livestock development in Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic increased by almost 48 percent in January-March 2019, Trend reports on April 23 referring to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee.

In the first quarter of 2019, the bank and non-bank credit organizations issued loans worth 1.6 million manats, which is 47.8 percent more than in the same period of 2018.

Five livestock farms were created during the reporting period, and another livestock farm to be expanded as a result of the issued loans.

Presently, the construction work is underway to build an artificial insemination center to increase the number of heads of cattle. It is carried out upon the decree of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s "On the adoption of additional measures for the development of animal husbandry".

In January-March 2019, 2,325 cows were fertilized. As a result of artificial insemination, 2,956 calves were born in 2018.

As of April 1, 2019, the number of heads of cattle reached 121,200, which is 1.6 percent more than in 2018. The number of heads of small ruminants reached nearly 754,920, which is 1.8 percent more than in 2018.

In January-March 2019, 6,200 tons of meat and 12,800 tons of milk were produced, which is 1.9 and 2.3 percent respectively more than in 2018.
