Iran wants to create joint railway companies with Azerbaijan and Russia, said Babak Ahmadi, deputy director for trade affairs of the Iran Railway Company, Trend reports referring to IRIB.

According to him, this will create conditions for increased transit of goods to Russia, Iran’s neighbors and Central Asian states.

He added that Iran's revenues from railway transit increased by 77 percent last Iranian year (started March 21, 2018).

Ahmadi also said that the international transportation of goods in foreign trade, on average, brings 1.4 million rials (app. $33.3 million) to Iran for each ton-kilometer.

“This year, it is planned to transport 86 million tons of cargo via the railway network domestically, and 9 million tons of cargo abroad,” he said.
