Iran, Turkmenistan trade turnover surpasses $1.7 billion

At a meeting with Turkmenistan Ambassador to Iran, Iran Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade emphasized the importance of strengthening economic relations with, and boosting exports to, neighboring countries as priority of the current year's plan.

“Turkmenistan has a growing economy with rich oil and gas and cotton resources. The bilateral relations should be developed through investment and enhancement of economic and technical cooperation,” the Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Reza Rahmani said during a meeting with Turkmenistan Ambassador to Iran Seyyed Mohammad Ahmadi, Trend reports citing Mehr News Agency.

He pointed out that the trade turnover between the two countries reached over $1.7 billion trade. Considering the religious, cultural and geographic proximity between Iran and Turkmenistan, the trade level can be improved, he added.

He went on to say that Iran is ready to deepen the relations. Rahmani asked the Ambassador about Turkmenistan's production capabilities and industrial capacities and expressed hope that volume of trade, industrial and services exchanges between the two countries could be increased.

Earlier, Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said that there is a solid foundation for expansion of cooperation between Iran and Turkmenistan in energy and transportation sectors and that both sides are determined to enhance the relations in this field.
