Turkmenistan, Singapore interested in increasing, diversifying trade

Presidents of Turkmenistan and Singapore, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Halimah Yacob, held talks in the Istana Palace (Singapore) with the participation of government delegations of the two countries, Trend reports referring to the Turkmenistan State News Agency.

This is the first state visit of the Turkmen president to this country (August 26-27).

One of the partnership’s priority areas is to further build up cooperation in the trade and economic sphere, where there is considerable potential, especially from the point of view of implementing large projects in the field of trade, the fuel and energy complex, the chemical and textile industry, transport and communications, the report said.

The parties spoke in favor of taking measures to increase and diversify mutual trade.

The head of Turkmenistan noted the possibility of activating additional mechanisms to promote trade and economic relations, such as holding business forums, exhibitions and expert meetings on a regular basis, the report said.

Good prospects for successful joining of efforts in the tourism industry were also noted. The work is underway on the Turkmen coast of the Caspian Sea to develop the Awaza national tourism zone, and the Turkmen side welcomes cooperation with Singaporean partners in this direction.

The parties also exchanged views on pressing issues of regional and international politics of mutual interest.

President Berdimuhamedov invited his Singaporean counterpart to visit Turkmenistan on a return state visit at any time convenient for her.
