Cargo transportation up in Azerbaijan

Some 154.43 million tons of cargo were transported in Azerbaijan in January-August 2019, which is 1.7 percent more than in the same period of 2018, Trend reports referring the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee.

A significant share of the total cargo transportation volume (65.7 percent) accounted for road transport - 101.4 million tons (an increase of 2.7 percent).

A quarter of the total cargo turnover (25.4 percent) accounted for pipelines. The volume of transported oil decreased by 3.6 percent and amounted to 26.384 million tons. In turn, the volume of transported gas increased by 18.8 percent and amounted to 17.863 million cubic meters.

The share of maritime transportation accounted for 2.6 percent of the specific weight, and its volume amounted to 4.087 million tons, having decreased by 26.5 percent. A little more than a third of all maritime transportation accounted for the oil sector.

Rail transportation accounted for 6.2 percent of all freight traffic and amounted to 9.6 million tons. The growth compared to last year’s indicator for January-August reached to 4.5 percent.

Air transportation accounted for only 0.1 percent of all freight traffic in Azerbaijan. Only 126,600 tons of cargo were transported by air, which is 6.4 percent less than in the same period last year.

The private transport sector accounted for 82.6 percent of all cargo traffic, which is 2.3 percent more than in the first eight months of last year, and the share of public transport sector was 17.4 percent, respectively,.
