Iran discloses volume of purchased wheat

More than 8 million tons of wheat has been purchased from farmers in Iran from the beginning of the current wheat harvesting season on April 4 to August 19, Trend reports citing Ministry of Agriculture Jihad of Iran.

According to the report, the volume of wheat purchased from farmers in Iran increased by 8 percent compared to the same period last Iranian year.

“The value of wheat purchased from farmers reached more than 202 trillion rials (about $4.81 billion), the report said.

According to the report, 181.9 trillion rials (about $4.33 billion) has been paid to farmers, so far.

The largest most amount of wheat was purchased in Khuzestan Province (1.2 million tons), Fars Province (907,000 tons) and Golestan Province (888,000 tons), the report noted.

The price of ordinary wheat to be purchased from farmers in the current planting year is set at 25,000 rials (about 59 cents), and of durum wheat - at 26,000 rials (about 61 cents) per kilogram in the current Iranian year (began March 20, 2020). The price of rapeseed is set at 46,600 rials (about $1.1) per kilogram.

A number of products, including wheat, tea, rice and other products are purchased from farmers by a state company under a guarantee in Iran.
