Germany welcomes agricultural co-op expansion with Kazakhstan

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Aug.20

By Nargiz Sadikhova - Trend:

Germany’s Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) will very much welcome further expansion of cooperation between Germany and Kazakhstan, BMEL’s Spokesperson Bettina Irion told Trend.

Irion said that for more than ten years, BMEL has been working with Kazakhstan within the scope of bilateral projects in order to advance necessary reforms.

“These projects include 'German-Kazakh Dialogue on Agricultural Policy (APD)' project; the 'Improvement of farm expertise for the sustainable development of milk production in Kazakhstan' project; as well as the project on support of the 'German-Kazakh Agricultural Center' (DAZ), which is meanwhile managed independently by the economic partners involved,” Irion said.

The spokesperson emphasized that the ministry welcomes the fact that Kazakhstan is making great efforts to continue developing the agricultural sector.

In her words, this is crucial, on the one hand, to reflect Kazakhstan’s importance in ensuring food security in the region and globally. On the other hand, it is necessary to create income opportunities for the local population and, despite the expansion of production, to ensure that vital livelihoods and resources are protected.

“Our ministry would very much welcome it if this cooperation between Germany and Kazakhstan continued to improve,” she said.
