EUROPEAN COMMISSION TO MOVE ON TRACECA PROJECTS

The European Commission has approved 5 million euros for the implementation of projects in the framework of the Europe-Caucasus-Asia (TRACECA) program.

Following the announcement, the national secretary for TRACECA permanent intergovernmental commission, Akif Mustafayev told Trend that the money has been designed for three training projects, to start this autumn.

“The first project, with the budget of 2 million euros, envisions training courses for the management of means of sea transportation. The training will be held for representatives of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Ukraine. The second project, with the
same budget, set out the regulatory regime applied in the field of transportation of dangerous goods. Relevant training will be arranged with participation of specialists from Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Ukraine. The third project, valued at one million euros, has been designed for the arrangement of training courses for transport forwarders from Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Moldova, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and Armenia,” Mustafayev said.

The European Commission has announced a tender to approve corresponding trainers; companies from western European nations have submitted their bids.

Mustafayev didn’t rule out Baku as the venue for the above training courses. “Despite we had applied to the European Commission for the possibility of financing some investments projects, no positive response has followed so far. On the other hand, the European Commission has not approved the corresponding budgets for 2005-2006. Anyway, we hope that proposals by the Azerbaijani side will be taken into proper consideration, when the Commission starts to approve these budgets,” Mustafayev said.
