IMF MISSION ON 2006 AZERI BUDGET EXPECTED

An International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission headed by Vitaliy Kramarenko, the Deputy Director of the IMF Department for Near East and Central Asia, is to arrive in Baku on Tuesday evening. IMF office in Baku told Trend that the mission to last by 31 August will set up work on
Wednesday.

"The key objective of the mission is appraisal of the fiscal policy and major structural reforms, designed by the Azerbaijani government for 2005. The mission will also render consultations on the draft 2006 public budget,” the same source added.

The draft 2006 public budget is now under the review of the Finances Ministry and was not submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers. Under the mission it is not planned to consider future program on cooperation between the government and the IMF.

Azerbaijan asked the IMF technical assistance on some directions, in particular in the monetary policy of the National Bank of Azerbaijan. No resolution on this issue has been adopted.
