Cargo deliveries in Azerbaijan Increase 10% as Compared to 2005

According to State Statistics Committee, in January to September 2006 the Azerbaijani transport sector carried 101.4 million tons of various cargos, up 9.4% over year, Trend reports. From total amount of cargos 54.8% fall for private sector. Over the first half-year, 52.5% of cargos were transported by motor transport, 14.4% via pipelines, 22.6% by railroad and 10.5% by sea.

Passenger transport carried 783.8 million people during the reported period, up 5.8% over year. 83.5% of all passengers were transported by private sector. Passenger transportation by automobiles constituted 84.6% of all passengers and metro - 14.7%.

Rail transportation carried 22.9mt of cargos, 22.6% more than 2005.

Marine transport carried 10.6mt of cargos, up 6.6% over year. Two-thirds of transported cargos fell for oil products and oil, while the rest on dry cargo. 99.7% of cargo transportation fell on international operations. Passenger transportation rose 9.2%.

Amount of cargos processed in Azeri ports in the reported period made 4.6mt, up 11.4% over year. 83.7% of the total cargo was transit cargo, which demonstrated 8.3%-rise. Alongside, import cargo rose 1.2 time and export cargo 42.2 times.

53.2 million tons of cargo was transported by automobiles, which is 6.3% more than 2005. the passenger transportation made up 663 million men (rose 5.6%).

In this period passenger transportation by metro rose 7.7% and made up 115.1 million people. The transportation by trolley-buses has been stopped since July 2006.

Passenger transportation via airways grew 7.8% and made up 988,000 million people. 5.9% of entire transportation was implemented by private sector, up 7.3%.

In January to September 32.2 million tons of cargo has been transported via the Eurasian corridor, which exceeded the last year figure by 8.4% and comprised 35.9% of entire cargo deliveries to the country .
