Raids of Alcoholic & Tobacco Goods in Azerbaijani Market to be Renewed

Raids of alcoholic and tobacco goods in the Azerbaijan market will be restored from February 2007, Trend reports quoting the Ministry of Agriculture. The raids will be held monthly in one of the districts of Baku and several regions of the country.

The primary goal for the raid is to determine the quality of the alcoholic drinks and tobacco goods produced and sold in the country and bring them into conformity of physical and chemical indicators.

The working group which holds the raids includes the specialists of the Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Economic Development, and the State Agency for Standardization, Metrology and Patent, Ministry of Taxes, Ministry of Health and State Customs Committee. We do not have the authority to apply sanctions to traders which sell low-quality goods, but we submit the results of our raids to the appropriate bodies, Ministry of Taxes and Executive Power of the same district, who take the matter further, the same source stated.

Previously in December 2006 the raids were held in Baku, Sumgait, Ganja, Gazakh and other regions of Azerbaijan.
