On 1 January 2007, over 3,000 non-resident natural persons have been registered in the country, Trendreports. Arif Veliyev, the Chairman of the State Statistics Committee, said at a news conference dedicated to results of 2006. He said that foreign citizens were mainly involved in oil companies. However, the exact registration of non-residents cannot be carried out, as there are also foreigners working in the country without official registration and they are mostly citizens of Turkey.
In 2006, 99% of 243 natural persons functioning in the country were economically active. 20-25% of 74,000 officially registered judicial persons are almost inactive.
Presently an action plan on conduct of the general census in Azerbaijan in 2009 is under development.
