Construction of Speed Railway Commenced within Project Kars-Tbilisi-Baku

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr. Trend A.Ismaylova / The Ambassador of Turkey to Azerbaijan, Huseyn Avni Garslioglu, has reported that work has commenced on the construction of the railway for a speed train in the territory of Turkey within the project Kars-Tbilisi-Baku.

The route of the railway has been finalized and preparations are underway to privatize the sections envisaged for the construction of the railway and to pay compensation to those inhabitants affected by the route.

The project to create railway transport corridor Kars-Akhalkalaki-Tbilisi-Baku includes constructing the railway stretch Kars-Akhalkalaki at a length of 98 km, with 68 km via the territory of Turkey and 30 km via Georgia. In addition, it is necessary to reconstruct the stretch Akhalkalaki-Tbilisi. The average cost of the project amounts to $400 mln.
