Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend S.Aliyev / The Geology and Geophysics Department of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) has finished a 2-dimensional (2D) and 3-dimensional (3D) seismic survey on the Southwest Gobustan contract area, developed by Gobustan Operating Company, a source at the project said.
During the year interpretation of the seismic data will be carried out. The Chinese company (the name has not been disclosed), that won an appropriate tender, will implement the work here.
A 3D seismic survey was carried out on the Sahil block of the Southwest Gobustan contract area, covering an area of 200 sq km. A 2D seismic survey was carried out on the Central and Northern blocks of contract area. This work was done in an area of 480 sq km.
The SOCAR subcontractor for the seismic survey is Tyumenneftgoefizika, a Russian trust.
GOC, an operating company, is involved in developing the Southwest Gobustan PSA, signed by SOCAR. 80%-stake in Gobustan Operating Company belongs to Commonwealth Limited and 20% to SOCAR. 37.17% share in Commonwealth Gobustan Limited belongs to Arawak Energy and 62.83% to China National Petroleum Company.
