Azerbaijan, Baku, 23 January / Trend corr S. Aliyev / Azerbaijan suspended return of energy due to Iran until spring of this year, the Vice-President of Azerenerji JSC Marlen Askarov said on 22 January. The volume to be returned exceeds 200mln KW/hour.

Azerbaijan was supplying Iran with 1.5-1.7mln KW/hour a day, the total liability being 400mln KW/hour.

Energy from Iran to Azerbaijan supplies the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (NAR) of Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan receives electric power from Iran in the winter when it has power shortages, and returns it in the summer, when there is a shortage in Iran.

According to the agreement, if Azerbaijan does not return the volume of power in the year, it has to pay for it. However, Iran rejected payment, so the power will be returned.

Azerbaijan returns 11% more energy to Iran than it borrows.
