Azerbaijan and Russia Discuss Unified Cost of Energy Turnover

Azerbaijan, Baku, 22 February / corr. Trend S. Aliyev/ On 22 Feb, the talks were held in Baku between Russian- Inter RAO and Azerbaijani -Azerenerji joint stock company -concerning the proposals to equalize the tariffs on purchase and sale of electricity between Azerbaijan and Russia, Marlan Asgarov, the vice-president of Azerenerji said on 22 February. As a result of the talks, a decision was adopted to work out the technical issues till the end, after which the changes will be made to the current agreement.

Russia proposed to carry out the turnover on the so-called mirror principle, which is to adopt a unified cost of 4.3 American cents for 1 kilowatt-hour for both the parties.

At present, the production of energy in Azerbaijan meets the demands of the domestic market. In 2007, the volume of the energy imported from Russia dropped by 70% as compare to 2006.

The energy turnover between Russia and Azerbaijan is a positive factor.
