Daily gas production hits 20 million cubic meters at Shah Deniz field

According to forecasts, the new production well at the Azerbaijani Shah Deniz gas-condensate field in Azerbaijani section of the Caspian Sea will be put into operation in the fourth quarter of 2010, SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan),which is a participant of to development project of the field said today.

"It is forecasted that 6 production wells on Shah Deniz will be put into operation in October-November 2010," the source said.

The source said at present gas is produced from four wells in the field. The operations on the elimination of the fifth well because of its poor technical condition are also underway. "In any case, gas is produced from four well on the field. The fifth well is in the off position," the source added. The operations on the elimination of wells began in the summer of 2009.

Presently, daily gas production from four wells on the Azerbaijani Shah Deniz gas-condensate field hits 23 million cubic meters.

Another source in an oil and gas market said earlier the elimination of wells on the field will not affect the total production. "Production can be increased any time," he said.

Gas produced on the Shah Deniz field is currently transported to Georgia and Turkey.  Azerbaijan also receives a part of the gas within project.

The contract to develop the offshore Shah Deniz field was signed on June 4, 1996. Participants to the agreement are: BP (operator) - 25.5 percent, Statoil Hydro - 25.5 percent, NICO - 10 percent, Total - 10 percent, LukAgip - 10 percent, TPAO - 9 percent, SOCAR-10 percent.
