Turkey withdraws right of private sector to export electricity to Syria

Electricity exports from Turkey to Syria, which are carried out today by the private sector will be transferred to the public sector, the Turkish State Electricity Trading and Contracting Company’s (TETAS) general director Haci Duran Gokkaya told Trend on Wednesday.

Electricity exports from Turkey to Syria, which are carried out today by the private sector will be transferred to the public sector, the Turkish State Electricity Trading and Contracting Company's (TETAS) general director Haci Duran Gokkaya told Trend on Wednesday.

"For various reasons, electricity exports to Syria are carried by the private sector. Work is underway to transfer the right for electricity export to TETAS," Gokkaya said.

He also said that electricity export will not be stopped despite the growing instability in Syria.

Earlier Gokkaya told Trend that Turkey supplies 232.2 million kilowatt hours of electricity to Syria every month and these are very important supplies for the country.
