Minister: Turkmenistan meets all prerequisites for expanding geography of Turkmen gas supply

Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, Nov.20

By Huseyn Hasanov- Trend:

Turkmenistan plans to expand the geography of its supplies in the foreseeable future, Minister of the Oil and Gas Industry and Mineral Resources of Turkmenistan Muhammetnur Halylov said at the Turkmenistan Oil and Gas Conference held in Ashgabat on Nov.19-21.

"There are favorable prerequisites for this and first of all sufficient raw materials base with proven hydrocarbon reserves estimated by our experts and approved by international auditors," the minister said.

Under the conditions of the rapidly changing global energy balance, Turkmenistan will play a most important role with its large resource potential and favorable investment environment," the minister said.

Halylov also reminded about Turkmenistan's initiative aimed at achieving energy security as an important factor of sustainable economic development and political stability.

Turkmenistan put forward some initiatives on ensuring reliable and stable energy supplies to world markets under the auspices of the UN. The UN General Assembly adopted two resolutions initiated by Turkmenistan on this issue.

Ashgabat considers it expedient to intensify the energy dialogue within the OSCE, to form mechanisms for multilateral consultations on political, financial, economic, technical, ecological aspects of construction and commissioning of multiversion pipeline infrastructure.

Turkmenistan ranks fourth for natural gas reserves and currently exports this kind of fuel to the Chinese, CIS and Iranian markets. The variants for construction of pipelines from Turkmenistan to South Asian and European markets are being studied.
