Trend:

The maintenance manager at South Pars Gas Field in the Persian Gulf said all refineries at the giant energy hub in southern Iran would be equipped with instruments to meter ethane.

“After the completion of essential maintenance work at the field by September 23, all refineries will be equipped with ethane metering instruments,” Mahmood Balandeh said, ILNA reported on September 15.

The ethane-metering project will be launched to measure ethane emissions at the refineries electronically in a bid to save the colorless gas and help safeguard rights of consumers and producers, he added.

With the help of the project, it will become clear that how much ethane each refinery produces and that more gas could be sold, Balandeh said.

The South Pars gas field, whose development has been divided into 28 phases, is located in the Persian Gulf straddling the maritime border between Iran and Qatar. It is estimated that the Iranian section of the field contains 14 trillion cubic meters of gas and 18 billion barrels of condensates in place.

South Pars is part of a wider gas field that is shared with Qatar. The larger field covers an area of 9,700 square kilometers, 3,700 square kilometers of which are in Iran's territorial waters (South Pars) in the Persian Gulf. The remaining 6,000 square kilometers, referred to as the North Dome, are in Qatar's territorial waters.
