Baku, Azerbaijan, Dec. 12

By Rufiz Hafizoglu - Trend:

The license of the energy company Guney Yildizi Petrol Uretim, Sondaj Muteahhitlik ve Ticaret A.S. (GYP) for oil and gas exploration in Turkey’s Sirnak province has been revoked, the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey told Trend Dec. 12.

The reason is related to the company’s failure to fulfill obligations to the ministry.

The Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources earlier told Trend that Turkey expanded the territory for oil and gas exploration in the country.

If earlier there were problems regarding oil and gas exploration in a number of eastern provinces of Turkey, now the exploration is also implemented there.

“Oil and gas exploration is also carried out in the Black Sea,” the ministry said.

A law permitting oil exploration in forests and national parks came into force in Turkey in April 2014.

According to a report of the ministry, a total of 56 wells have been drilled as part of exploration of new oil and gas fields in Turkey since 2014, of which 54 are onshore, and two are offshore.

In 2017, 1,863 exploration projects were carried out in Turkey to search for new oil and gas fields.
