Trend:

Iran will produce 5,000 megawatts of renewable energy in the next two years from solar and wind power plants.

"Solar and wind energy are the best clean sources of power in the world and Iran has good plans to develop the renewable energy," said energy consumption director at Iran Power Generation, Transmission and Distribution Company (TAVANIR), Alireza Ahmadi Yazdi, Trend reports citing IRNA.

"The country has installed solar and wind energy equipment to produce 700 megawatts of electricity. According to prediction for next two years, the power production capacity of wind and solar plants will reach 5,000 megawatts," he added.

"The production of one kilowatt of electricity from fossil fuels causes 800 grams of environmental pollution, but the solar and wind energies are clean," he said.

"Iran has a very good geographic situation and is the best country to produce solar energy," he added.

The official indicated: "Iran will have 8,000 megawatts of power shortage in summer that requires people's cooperation in saving energy."
