Total funding of renewable energy projects by Development Bank of Kazakhstan exceeds $140M(Exclusive)

Development Bank of Kazakhstan currently has three projects in the area of renewable energy sources in its portfolio, the source in the bank told Trend.

As stated by the source in the bank, total value of funding provided to projects of renewable energy amounts 55.5 billion tenge ($143.187 million) at the moment. The total pipeline of the bank’s projects including those under review equals some 260.27 billion tenge, 142.8 billion tenge of which is the participation of the bank.

All three “green” projects of the bank shall be implemented before the end of 2019.

“This is the Astana Ехро 2017 wind park in Akmola region’s Kostomar settlement, which will produce 50 MW of electricity a year with possible increase to 100 MW a year; Turgusun hydroelectricity plant №1, the capacity of which will be 24.9 MW, on Tungusun river; and Turkestan region’s solar park Zhylga, the capacity of which will be 20 MW,” the source noted.

Furthermore, according to the source, another renewable energy project has been recently approved for funding which oversees construction of a solar park in Almaty region, the capacity of which is to be 100 MW.

Another project on using biofuel for producing electricity is currently being reviewed by the bank, the source added.

The source stated that within the framework of investment projects, bank for the most part cooperates with China and countries of European Union, which manufacture high-tech equipment for electricity production via renewable energy sources.

Development Bank of Kazakhstan finances projects in the processing sector and infrastructure, including greenfield projects, and export operations.
