BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 9. Kazakhstan’s Energy Ministry, Samruk-Kazyna JSC, KazMunayGas NC JSC and TotalEnergies Group of Companies signed an agreement in principle aimed at implementing a large-scale project in the alternative energy field, Trend reports via the ministry.

The signing ceremony was attended by Energy Minister Bolat Akchulakov, Board Chairman of Samruk-Kazyna Almasadam Satkaliyev, Board Chairman of KazMunayGas NC JSC Magzum Mirzagaliyev, Vice President for Business Development in Asia at Total Еren SA Antoine Garret, and Managing Director of TotalEnergies in Kazakhstan Ahlem Friga-Noy.

The signed document is aimed at the development, financing, construction and operation of a wind power plant with a total capacity of one GW using an energy storage system.

The location of the facility is near Mirny village in the Zhambyl region. The construction is planned to be carried out in stages, and the full completion of the project is expected between 2024 and 2026.

The implementation of this project will allow achieving the target indicators approved by the concept of Kazakhstan's transition to a green economy, attracting additional investments, creating new jobs, as well as increasing the generation of ‘green’ electricity.
