BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 22. Based on our exchange with the national authorities via the Gas Coordination Group, there is no immediate security of supply risk, but we keep monitoring the situation very closely and remain in close contact with the national authorities of the affected countries, the European Commission spokesperson told Trend.

“The Commission and Member States have been preparing for many months for disruptions from Russia, and reinforcing the resilience of the EU energy system and accelerating our transition away from Russian fossil fuels. Our system is designed to ensure reverse gas flows when needed, and solidarity between Member States. We are stepping up our efforts to diversify away from Russian supplies and switch to international partners that are trusted and reliable. Last week, we concluded a Memorandum of Understanding with Egypt and Israel for the export of LNG from the region to the EU. The recently established EU Energy Platform will be a key instrument to pool our demand and ensure reliable supplies at affordable prices,” said the spokesperson.

The EU Commission representative recalled that last month EU put forward its REPowerEU Plan, and sanctions on Russian coal and oil are coming into force.

“With the REPowerEU Plan we will accelerate the deployment of home-grown renewables, reduce energy use and switch to alternative suppliers that are more reliable,” the spokesperson added.
