In January-November 2018, the turnover of payment cards through ATMs and POS-terminals in Azerbaijan amounted to 1.561 billion manats, which is 22.72 percent more than in January-November 2017, reads the report of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan, Trend reports.
The total number of transactions with payment cards in January-November made up 10.512 million (an increase of 24.06 percent).
The number of operations on debit cards [both inside and outside the country] equaled to 9.304 million in the amount of 1.422 billion manats, of which almost 5.394 million operations in the amount of 1.073 billion manats were carried out through ATMs inside the country, and 1.l107 million operations in the amount of 137 million manats - through POS-terminals.
In January-November 2018, the banks' customers carried out via credit cards [both inside and outside the country] 1,209 million operations totaling 139 million manats (over 349,000 operations amounting to 56 million manats - with the help of ATMs inside the country, and 394,000 operations amounting to 29 million manats - with the help of POS-terminals inside the country).
Number of payment cards, ATMs and POS-terminals
At the end of November, the number of payment cards increased by 12.2 percent to 6.476 million compared to the beginning of the year.
Most of the cards – about 5.642 million – refers to debit cards, in particular, 2.532 million – to social cards, 2.041 million - to payroll cards, and 1.069 million – to other types of cards. The number of credit cards for this period amounted to 835,000.
As of December 1, 2018, there were 2,490 ATMs in the country, of which 1,322 are in Baku, 1,168 are in other cities and regions of the country. In January-November, the total number of ATMs increased by 30, or 1.22 percent.
The number of POS-terminals in the country amounted to 65,912, of which 38,602 were installed in Baku, 27,310 were installed in other cities and regions of the country.
In January-November, the number of POS terminals in Azerbaijan decreased by 116, or 0.18 percent.
Volume of transactions in ATMs and POS-terminals
In November, for 1000 people in Azerbaijan, there were four ATMs and 0.15 POS-terminal.
On average, 2,306.5 transactions amounting to 453,589 manats accounted for the share of one ATM in November. The amount of one transaction accounting for one ATM amounted to 196.7 manats.
On average, 22.8 transactions in the amount of 2,521.4 manats accounted for one POS terminal during the reporting period. The amount of one POS terminal transaction was 110.8 manats.
