Uzbekistan to introduce excise tax on some tobacco products

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Apr. 7

By Ilkin Seyfaddini – Trend:

Uzbekistan will introduce excise tax on imported products with heated tobacco, smoking tobacco, chewing tobacco, sniffing tobacco, hookah tobacco and nicotine-containing liquid starting from June 1, 2020, Trend reports with reference to the Ministry of Justice of Uzbekistan.

In this regard, the rates of excise tax on excisable goods imported into the territory of Uzbekistan have been supplemented with additional taxes.

In accordance with this, the size of the excise tax on a number of tobacco products has been established.

In particular, from 1 June 2020, one kilogram of smoking tobacco will be imposed with an excise tax of $25.

Earlier it was reported that excise taxes on alcohol, gasoline and gas will not be increased in Uzbekistan until the end of the year.

Also, against the backdrop of increased demand for face masks in Uzbekistan amid the COVID-19 pandemic, masks were allowed to be produced and sold without a license.

In addition, Uzbekistan will temporarily lift customs duties on importing a number of medicines and medical products, as stated the decree of Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev "On additional measures to meet the needs of the population in medicine," signed on March 27.
