Mexico to discuss Azerbaijan's candidacy for election to ITU Council

Azerbaijan has announced its candidacy for elections to the Council of the ITU on a group of the "C" region countries, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies told Trend.

Azerbaijan has announced its candidacy for elections to the Council of the ITU on a group of the "C" region countries, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies told Trend.

The elections will be held within the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference, to will take place will be held October 4-22 in Mexico.
At present, Azerbaijan's candidature submitted to the ITU for consideration and the Foreign Ministry holds works in this direction.

The Plenipotentiary Conference is the supreme body of the ITU, responsible for formulation of future policies of the organization. The conference, convened once every four years, is determined by the overall policy adopts four-year strategic and financial plans, and elects senior leadership of the organization, members of the Council and the Radio Regulations Board.

Earlier Azerbaijan was unable to enter the board of the organization on a group of countries in the region "C" gaining 57 votes in the election. Elections were held on five regions "A", "B", "C", "D" and "E".

Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, USA, Canada, Cuba, Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela were elected on the "A" region, the "B" region - France, Spain, Switzerland, Germany, Sweden, Italy, Portugal and Turkey, the "C" region -  Russia, Romania, Bulgaria, Czech Republic and Ukraine, the "D" region - Morocco, Senegal, Algeria, Nigeria, Mali, Tunisia, South Africa, Egypt, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Kenya, Tanzania and Cameroon, the "E" region - Japan, Korea, China, Thailand, Malaysia, United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Pakistan, India, Philippines, Saudi Arabia and Australia.
