Azerbaijan, Baku, Aug. 23 / Trend H.Valiyev /

The development of micro-blogging in Azerbaijan depends on the technical support provided by local mobile operators, Barkamp Project Manager Ilgar Mirza told Trend today.

Micro-blogging is different in scope than traditional blogging systems, which are accessible via an IP protocol, Mirza said. Its main advantage is mobility.

"The development of micro-blogging in Azerbaijan is directly related to the overall development of the mobile Internet, as well as to the technical support provided by mobile operators," he said. "Today Twitter is not available via Azerbaijani mobile operators, and this prevents micro-blogging from developing. The main feature of micro-blogging is that an organic number of characters allows you to write short operational messages. The objective of micro-blogging is not to tell others about something, but rather to keep them informed about developments."

He added that although the Azerbaijani Internet has thousands of blogs, only 10 percent are active.

An important component of developing blogging in Azerbaijan is ensuring local blogging platforms that allow blogging in the Azerbaijani language, Mirza said.

He also stressed that although most Azerbaijani blogs are entertainment-oriented, recently they have become more specialized in areas such as IT and marketing.

The development of blogging in Azerbaijan will be discussed at the upcoming Blogosphere-2010 Forum on Sept. 10- 12.
